Lately I am realizing more and more that there are a huge number of people in the world who just want EASY when theyā€™re cooking dinner! And for everyone who likes brats and enjoys easy recipes, this new recipe for Air Fryer Brats is going to be a complete winner!

Of course cooking bratwurst on the grill or even in a frying pan is definitely not hard. But after I got intrigued with the idea of cooking brats in the Air Fryer and tried it out with my great assistant and niece Kara, we both agreed that the Air Fryer cooking infused the brats with so much flavor.

And with the Air Fryer the brats are done in less than 10 minutes and you donā€™t really even need to watch them, although we did turn ours once! I havenā€™t experimented yet with other types of sausage that Iā€™d normally cook on the grill or in a pan, but I am looking forward to doing it. And Iā€™m definitely a fan of easy dinners, so I know this is something Iā€™ll make often when I donā€™t have much time to cook!

What ingredients do you need for this recipe?

All you need for this recipe is the bratwurst, and I think this might be the first one-ingredient recipe on my blog! We used original Johnsonville Brats, but there are many good brands. Be sure not to use beer brats if you want them to be gluten-free. The recipe would work fine with turkey brats or lower-fat types of uncooked sausage if that appeals to you more.

How did we serve the Air Fryer Brats?

We devoured our brats just plain with mustard when we tested the recipe, and with a side dish like my Loaded Cauliflower Mock Potato Salad served on the side this would make a great Keto meal. But if youā€™re cooking for kids or family members who donā€™t care about carbs, it would be so easy to serve bratwurst in buns for other family members.

What Air Fryer did I use for the Air Fryer Brats?

I became a big Air Fryer fan after I discovered the Cuisinart Convection Air Fryer Toaster Oven (affiliate link) which is what I used for this recipe. This air fryer has a larger basket, which was big enough to do the whole package of five brats (or even a few more), but if your Air Fryer has a smaller basket you might not be able to fit that many.

How to make Air Fryer Brats:

(Scroll down for complete recipe with nutritional information.)

  1. Let bratwurst come to room temperature.
  2. Preheat Air Fryer to 375F/190C if your Air Fryer model needs preheating.
  3. Arrange brats so they are not touching each other.
  4. Cook 5 minutes.
  5. Then turn over and cook 3-5 minutes longer, depending on how well-done you like them.
  6. The turning is probably optional but it will get them more evenly browned.
  7. Serve hot, with mustard of course!

Make it a low-carb meal:

I already mentioned Loaded Cauliflower Mock Potato Salad as a perfect low-carb side dish for these tasty Air Fryer Brats. But I think this would also be amazing with Air Fryer Peppers and Onions served on the side! Iā€™d cook the peppers and onions first and keep them warm while you cook the brats. Other side dishes I think would taste great include Avocado Tomato Salad, Spicy Lime Coleslaw, Roasted Cabbage with Lemon, or Easy Cheesy Baked Keto Cauliflower.

Low-Carb Diet / Low-Glycemic Diet / South Beach Diet Suggestions:
Bratwurst cooked using the Air Fryer is a perfect dish for any low-carb or Keto diet. Brats are too high in fat to be approved for the original South Beach Diet, but you could cook turkey brats or other lower-carb sausage using this method.
