I prefer 21-25 per pound size raw shrimp for this recipe, but just cook for slightly less time if you have a smaller size.
What sauces can you serve with the Air Fryer Shrimp?
If you want more options for a dipping sauce, this air fryer shrimp recipe would also be tasty with Remoulade Sauce or with my Keto Cocktail Sauce. Or if you want a sauce to cool down the slightly-spicy shrimp this would also be great with Cucumber Dill Sauce. I hope you try the Air Fryer Shrimp no matter what sauce you serve it with!
Which Air Fryer Did I Use?
I’m crazy about the Cuisinart Convection Air Fryer Toaster Oven which is the one I used for this recipe. This air fryer has a larger basket, which lets me fit plenty of food, and I find this model very easy to use. I also like the convenience of having an air fryer that stays out on the counter. How to make this Air Fryer Shrimp recipe:
(This is only a summary of the steps for the recipe; please scroll down for complete printable recipe. Or if you use the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top of the page, it will take you directly to the complete recipe.)
- Let shrimp thaw in the fridge overnight, then drain well in a colander.
- While shrimp drain mix lemon juice, Creole Mustard (or any spicy mustard), sour cream, ground horseradish and Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning (or other Creole Seasoning) to make the sauce.
- Mix olive oil and Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning.
- Put shrimp in a large Ziploc bag, add olive oil mixture, and squeeze the bag with your hands until shrimp is coated with the spicy mixture.
- Preheat Air Fryer to 400F/200C while you pat shrimp dry with paper towels.
- I made this recipe before I discovered it, but now I would definitely use Air Fryer Parchment Paper (affiliate link) to keep the basket clean. Add that to the basket after you preheat, then arrange shrimp in a single layer in the basket.
- If you have a smaller Air Fryer you will have to cook this recipe in two batches, which isn’t much of a problem since the shrimp cooks so quickly.
- Cook shrimp 3 1/2 minutes, or until they are pink and just starting to get firm. Don’t overcook!
- Check after 3 1/2 minutes and see if you want to go a few seconds longer.
- Serve shrimp warm or room temperature, with the Mustard-Horseradish Sauce on the side.

OMG!! This made the shrimp taste sooooo good!! I recommend this recipe and I did not make the horseradish sauce. I just put some Penzey’s horseradish dip seasoning. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So glad you loved it. If you would leave an actual star rating (up in the recipe below where it says PRINT) that would be so appreciated.
Technology, so annoying! The recipe was in there but I don’t know why it wasn’t showing up in the post. Recipes are inside a recipe plug-in that inserts them, so I republished that part and it seems to have fixed it. THANK YOU for telling me; no idea why that happened.
Comments earlier than this were for this recipe which cooked the shrimp in water and served it in a thinner sauce with similar flavors. Both recipes are very good!
I made this for our Super Bowl snack table. Not sure it will last until tonight. My only change was to pan sear the shrimp with a sprinkle of Penzey's lemon garlic seasoning. Thank you!
I love the sound of that; so glad you're enjoying it!
I love the sound of asparagus as an addition to this!
Just had this tonight, also threw in leftover asparagus. YUMMY!
Glad you like it. I've made it a few times for gatherings and it's always been a hit.
It's so nice to see a shrimp recipe that is a bit different from all the others. The mustard-horseradish sauce is so enticing that I can't wait to give this one a try. Thanks for posting this!
Sarah, sounds good; glad you liked it!
UHmazing! So delicious and I almost feel guilty eating it, because it tastes like it shouldn't be for a diet! I've been off and on the SB diet a few times, my obstacle is cooking and prep time. I'm tired-and busy! So I skipped the whole cooking of the shrimp, and I just made the sauce, threw the shrimp in at night and took it to work with me in the morning. Seemed like the shrimp took on the sauce flavor while soaking at night :)yay!
Deborah, I love the idea of adding green beans to this, thanks for sharing!
This is SO. DARN. GOOD.
I make it a meal instead of an appetizer, and I mix lightly steamed green beans into the sauce. When I'm feeling dangerous, I offer hunks of crusty french bread for dipping.
I also add some agave nectar to the sauce. Thanks Kalyn!!!!!!!!!!!
So glad people are enjoying this. Thanks for letting me know.
These were great shrimp!!! Very different than what I have ever had, but delicious! Served with some veggie rice…thanks!
Cara, I loved it. Let me know how he likes it.
For the amount of shrimp we eat in this house, I can safely say there is nothing that resembles this. And I can safely say, there is a certain hubby that would love it. Can't wait to try it!
Love this shrimp! Great flavors!
Nisrine, it was just fabulous. Do try the recipe; I bet you'll like it.
There is always room on my table for a good shrimp recipe. It looks great.
Cheers,
Nisrine
Georgie, perfect for that too! High protein and very low fat with the light sour cream.
Wow, Kalyn, this looks delicious and very unique too. It fits my diet perfectly – I'm not on a weight loss diet, I'm on a *healthy & delicious* food diet!
Georgie
Dara me too. I don't think I've ever had shrimp I didn't like, and if there's horseradish that's a plus for me!
I'd be happy to eat this any time of the year – diet or no diet. The horseradish is a brilliant combination with the shrimp!
Joanne and Lydia, this was truly perfect to help you forget you're dieting. I loved it as a main course and it was a big hit at the party as an appetizer.
Anonymous, the shrimp were already peeled in all the photos, but if you had unpeeled shrimp I would peel them after I cooked them. (I'd look for peeled shrimp though. I'll add that caution to the recipe, thanks!)
I love the sound of that horseradish sauce. Anything that excites the palate helps you forget that you're on a diet!
Thanks for another great-looking seafood recipe! One quick question: At what point are you peeling the shrimp? In the top pick they look like they are still in their shell and in the next shrimp pic they are not, but I didn't see anywhere in the recipe about when you peeled them. Thanks!
I love diet dishes that are just so tasty you would never know they're diet! this sounds delicious..like it's bursting with flavor!
