Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal (Video)
Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal is delicious and this is unbelievably easy for a family dinner! And this is good any time of year, but I think these flavors are especially perfect for Fall!
PIN Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal!
This Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal is a perfect dinner idea for fall or winter, and this is about as easy as it gets for a dinner that’s healthy and tasty.
We loved the sweet potatoes for a pop of color and flavor, but if you’re being stricter on carbs you can use more broccoli and just a tiny bit of sweet potato; or skip the sweet potatoes completely if you’d like.
We thought this combination was so delicious when we tested the recipe, and I liked it so much that a few days later I made it again just for a quick dinner for myself (something that rarely happens in a house where there is always an abundance of leftover food from recipe testing!)
If you like the sound of these ingredients I hope you’ll try this tasty sheet pan meal! I bet it’s going to be a dinner your family will ask for over and over!

About the oven temperature for this sheet pan meal:
Thousands of people have made this recipe, and it has gotten raves from almost everyone who’s tried it. But a small number of people have reported that for them the sweet potatoes cooked too quickly at the 450F/230C. I am puzzled, because I’ve made it myself with no problems at that temperature and so many people have commented how much they like the recipe and not mentioned issues. If you’re not 100% sure your oven is calibrated correctly (or you know it cooks a bit hot) I would adjust the temperature (maybe even to 400F/204C) and simply cook it for a longer time.
What kind of sausage did we use for the sheet pan meal?
This dinner idea started with the Aidell’s Bacon, Mushroom, and Swiss Sausage that I got infatuated with after I sampled it at Costco, but any pre-cooked chicken, turkey, or pork sausage will work here. It’s pretty easy to find sausage that’s low in carbs, and this one has only one carb per sausage and it’s gluten-free as well. (And no, Aidells hasn’t paid me to promote their sausage and I doubt they’ve even heard of my blog!)
Why are Sheet Pan Meals so popular?
Sheet Pan Meals are an idea that started showing up a few years ago, and I think they’re such a perfect way to make an easy dinner. And the idea of dinner that cooks on one pan is definitely one reason these are so popular!

How to Make Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal:
(This is only a summary of the steps for the recipe; please scroll down for complete printable recipe. Or if you use the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top of the page, it will take you directly to the complete recipe.)
- Preheat oven to 450F/230C. However, a small group of people have reported the sweet potatoes cooked too quickly at that temperature. If you’re not 100% sure your oven is calibrated correctly (or you know it cooks a bit hot) I would adjust the temperature (maybe even to 400F/204C) and simply cook it for a longer time.
- Preheat oven and spray sheet pan with non-stick spray.
- Cut up two medium sweet potatoes into cubes that aren’t too small.
- Whisk together olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Toss sweet potatoes with half that mixture.
- Spread sweet potatoes out on a sheet pan and start to roast.
- Slice sausage into slices about 3/4 inch thick.
- When sweet potatoes have roasted 15 minutes, add sausage pieces to the sheet pan and roast 10 minutes more.
- Cut up broccoli into same-size pieces (about the size of the other ingredients.)
- Toss broccoli with the rest of the oil-balsamic mixture.
- Remove sheet pan from the oven and turn sausage pieces over. Then tuck broccoli pieces between sausage and sweet potatoes.
- Cook 15 minutes more, or until broccoli is done to your liking and sausages and sweet potatoes are nicely browned.
- Season with a little salt and fresh-ground black pepper and serve hot.
- This will keep in the fridge for a day or two and reheats surprisingly well.

Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal
Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal is easy and tasty for a fall dinner.
Ingredients
- 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into medium-sized cubes
- 3 T olive oil
- 1 T balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- fresh ground black pepper to taste
- 1 pkg. (4 or 5 links) pre-cooked chicken, turkey, or pork sausage (about 14-16 oz. sausage)
- 1 lb. broccoli, trimmed and cut apart to make about 3/4 pound broccoli pieces
- salt and additional fresh-ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450F/230C and spray sheet pan with non-stick spray. However, if you're not 100% sure your oven is calibrated correctly (or you know it cooks a bit hot) I would adjust the temperature (maybe even to 400F/204C) and simply cook it for a longer time.
- Cut up two medium sweet potatoes into cubes that aren't too small. (I made cubes that were about one inch across.)
- Whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Put sweet potato cubes into a bowl and toss with half the oil-balsamic mixture.
- Spread sweet potatoes out on a sheet pan, put pan in the oven, and start to roast for 15 minutes.
- Slice sausage into slices about 3/4 inch thick. (We trimmed off the ends so the sausage would have a flat end on both sides.)
- When sweet potatoes have roasted 15 minutes, add sausage pieces to the sheet pan and roast 10 minutes more.
- Cut up broccoli into same-size pieces (about the size of the other ingredients.)
- Put broccoli into the bowl and toss broccoli with the rest of the oil-balsamic mixture.
- Remove sheet pan from the oven and turn sausage pieces over. Then spread sausage and sweet potatoes apart and tuck broccoli pieces between them.
- Put sheet pan back in the oven and cook 15 minutes more, or until broccoli is done to your liking and sausages and sweet potatoes are nicely browned.
- Season with a little salt and fresh-ground black pepper and serve hot.

How would you recommend reheating this?
I just reheat it in the microwave (with a glass microwave cover over my plate.) But it would reheat well in the oven in a casserole dish covered with foil. Just don’t reheat too long with either method.
I have this in the oven now. I grabbed a bag of the broccoli, cauliflower and carrots medley, so I’m roasting those with the sweet potatoes. I’m also using maple balsamic vinegar so that should be good. I am roasting my vegetables a little longer because we prefer them soft And I’m using the Johnsonville cheddar sausages because that’s what I had on hand.
I’ve never made this with frozen vegetables, so I hope that works for you, and hope you enjoy it.
I have made this before SO good!
Question: what are your thoughts about marinating veggies overnight in the dressing?
I’m not sure if it will improve it, but I don’t think it would hurt! Let me know if you it!
450 was too high for this recipe. I followed the directions and my sweet potatoes were getting burnt. Also the sausage was blackening and broccoli was charred. The pieces that I could eat were good. Next time I will adjust that temp drastically. Entirely too high
I’m sorry you had that problem and I wish I knew why it was happening that way for some people but not at all for others. I have made this several times using 450F and there are comments from people who have made it over and over with no mention of the temperature being too high. And there are literally hundreds of comments from people on Pinterest, with no complaints.
There are some comments below from me regarding why I think it might be happening. But I am also going to add a section in the post suggesting people start with a lower temperature if they feel uncertain whether their oven is calibrated correctly, or if they know it cooks a bit hot.
Would the baking time or temp change a lot if I used turkey Italian sausage (made of raw ground turkey)? I would probably leave them whole and cut up after baking.
Thanks!
If you have a microwave you could microwave the sausage for a few minutes to partially cook them. If you don’t do that I think you’d definitely need to cook them a bit longer. I can’t say for sure how long since I haven’t made this with uncooked sausage, but I’d guess 10-15 minutes more.
Can you use frozen broccoli? And If so, at what step would you add it? Same as normal after sausage cooks 10 min or at the same time as the sausage pieces go in so the frozen broccoli cooks for 25 min?
Sidenote: I did roast sweet potatoes & frozen broccoli at 415° last night for 30cmin & the broccoli was a little soft & over cooked but still had good roasted flavor.
Sorry I missed this comment. I moved my site to a new web host, and the site was up but I just realized today that no comments were coming to my e-mail for NINE DAYS, yikes.
Glad you went ahead and tried it, and interesting to hear how it worked with frozen broccoli.
We love this recipe! Have cooked this 5 times now and followed the recipe exact. The time and temperature are perfect! Thank you for this yummy recipe.
Oh how I love to hear that! So happy you are enjoying it; thanks for taking time to let me know.
I just did the first 15 min and my sweet potatoes almost look burnt on the end they were on? Is 450 really the temp? Seems too hot?!? I’m afraid they’ll be burnt to a crisp by the time I add and cook all the other stuff
I did check the recipe, and yes I cooked it at 450F for the times specified.
I don’t know why you’re having that issue, but hundreds of people have commented on this recipe on Pinterest, and many more here saying how much they liked it.
There are some things I’d check. Are you sure your oven temperature is calibrated correctly? Some ovens cook much hotter than what the temperature says.
Also, some brands of balsamic vinegar have a lot more sugar than others. If that’s the case with the brand you have the sugar might brown more.
Are you spraying the baking sheet with non-stick spray?
I’m sorry you’re having that experience and don’t know what else to suggest, other than lowering the oven temperature if you think you need to. But for me (and obviously many other people) it worked perfectly at this temperature.
The recipe has been thoroughly tested at this temperature and time but of course you are always welcome to make it any way you prefer.
I had the same issue. Turned down the oven to 425.
As I said in the reply above, I am not sure why you are having an issue with the temperature other than the things I mentioned.
We LOVE this recipe! How long should I do sweet potatoes if they are frozen?
Thanks!
So glad you are enjoying the recipe. I haven’t ever cooked frozen sweet potatoes so I wouldn’t be able to answer that for you, but love to hear how it works if you try it.
Delicious. Followed recipe except used buttercup squash rather than sweet potatoes & added 1 TBL of maple syrup. We like sweets! Will definitely make it again.
So glad you were able to successfully adapt it to your preferences and enjoyed the recipe!
Made this tonight and loved it. I added grape tomatoes for more color, it was fantastic. Definitely will be making it again and sharing the recipe with family and friends!! Thanks.
So happy you enjoyed it. I like the addition of tomatoes.
My daughter loves sweet potatoes and we’ve had this recipe every other week for a few months now. It’s her favorite dinner. We change up the chicken sausage we use and today we used green beans instead of broccoli.
So glad you are enjoying it so much. I like the idea of green beans a lot.
I’m a little confused. The sausage should be precooked?
Thanks
That’s referring to links of sausage that come partially cooked (as opposed to completely raw links of sausage); see the photo of the recipe steps for an example of the sausage I used.
If you have a raw link sausage you want to use for this recipe I’d just poke with a fork and microwave for a minute or two until it’s firm enough to cut up. Hope you enjoy!
This recipe was fantastic! Even my picky kids gobbled it up. I tossed a little bit of crumbled feta on top. Delicious!
Thanks Caley; so glad you enjoyed it!
This sounds delicious! Could you use frozen broccoli instead of fresh in this recipe?
Truthfully I wouldn’t recommend frozen broccoli.
Do you think this would freeze well so I can make ahead of time to have ready?
Sorry to say I don’t think this would freeze especially well, either before it’s cooked or after cooking. The sweet potatoes and the broccoli will definitely be affected by freezing.
Ok, thank you for your quick reply!
Made this tonight with zucchini instead of broccoli and chicken apple sausage. It turned out so good. I added a little more of the balsamic mix. I’ll definitely make it again. My house smells wonderful!
So glad you enjoyed; I like the idea of using zucchini.
This was delicious!! I used mild Italian chicken sausage and added two honeycrisp apples and 1/2 c. real bacon bits for the last 15 mins. Excellent recipe!
So glad you enjoyed. I think the apple is a fun idea!
I am going to try this recipe out. My husband and I had twins about a month ago, so I am looking for quick easy meals, not necessarily healthy at this point- just get everyone fed lol. Do you just scoop the food up and put it in a bowl? Are there any sides you would recommend for this? I’m just confused on the presentation part I guess. Thanks!
Oh my, twins must be a challenge! We just ate it on a plate. I don’t think any side dish is needed with this at all, but any kind of green salad would go well with it.
Made this tonight and even without the balsamic it was so good! Can’t wait to add the balsamic next time.
So glad you enjoyed it!
So glad you enjoyed it! Everyone needs a list like that.
I needed a quick easy meal after a long day at work. This was so simple and delicious. I added it to my Crappy Day Quick Dinner list.
I’ve made this multiple times for my husband and myself. So easy and so delicious!
So glad you a enjoying it!
This was incredibly good! Has anyone added bacon???
Personally I love the idea of adding some bacon! So glad you enjoyed it!
Can you swap green beans for broccoli? Would that affect the time and temperature at all?
Yes, you definitely can. You might want to enter “roasted green beans” into the search bar to see if the cooking time is different.
So I went ahead and followed the recipe as is and it was phenomenal. I really enjoyed this recipe and will make it again and will try different vegetables. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
So glad you enjoyed it!
I used what I had, russet potatoes and kielbasa, instead of the sweet potatoes and sausage, and doubled the sauce. We really enjoyed this and I will be making it again.
That is how everyone should cook, adapt to what you have! So glad you enjoyed it!
This is DELICIOUS!!! I’ve made this like 7 timed and about to make it right now. Thank you so much for this recipe, it’s a regular in my kitchen. 🙂
Oh yaay! I am so happy you are enjoying it so much!
Excellent recipe! I added a little Italian seasoning in with the olive oil mix- because why not- it was sooo good! The timing on everything was spot on and every component came out perfect. We loved it.
So glad you enjoyed it.
I absolutely love this recipe! It’s flavorful and easy to make. My fiancé is not a huge fan of sweet potatoes so I added some honey gold baby potatoes for him and kept the sweet potatoes to myself. I use feta and spinach chicken sausage and it’s amazing with all the flavors. 🙂 Thank you for this quick, healthy and delicious recipe!
So glad you are enjoying it. I love the sound of that sausage you’re using!
Can you use sweet apple chicken sausage with this recipe or is that a weird flavor to go with the rest of flavors?
Yes, I think that type of sausage would be just fine for this! Hope you enjoy!
This was yummy and very easy. It felt healthy, but filling too!
I think your website is going to one of my new go-to’s for weeknight meals. Thanks for sharing your recipes!
Thanks so much! So glad to hear you enjoyed it!
you must have missed the last line in the recipe because if you had seasoned with salt and pepper to taste, it definitely would not have been “tasteless”, unless you have no taste buds. Next time, learn how to read recipe first before being rude
I doubt Courtney will be back to see your suggestion Vik, but thanks for the support.
This sounds really good! How would you adjust the recipe if using sausages that aren’t pre-cooked?
I’d microwave the sausage for a few minutes, just until they are firm enough to cut up. And I’d also probably add them to the sheet pan a few minutes earlier. Hard to say exactly how much longer cooking time they would need without trying it, but for sure they would need a bit more.
Super good. Instead of sausage, I used a pound of cut chicken breast seasoned with kosher salt and pepper.
Glad you enjoyed it! I like the sound of that.
This recipe was SO GOOD. I made it for my husband and I for dinner and it was the perfect amount of food. It was so filling! I added a bit more balsamic vinegar and oil to be broccoli before cooking it and we liked the extra flavor. Such a flavorful and delicious dinner! I will definitely be making this again!
Thanks Kaylee! So glad to hear you enjoyed it.
I’m not a fan of saugage, is there anything else I could substitute? Or will it taste just as good without meat?
You could use any kind of meat that can cook in a sheet pan meal, but you might have to adjust the cooking time since I only tested it with sausage. I do think this would also be delicious without the meat.
Wow, such a rude comment, on a recipe where YOU DIDN’T FOLLOW THE RECIPE. A lot of the flavor in this is in the caramelization and browning of the sweet potatoes and browning of the other ingredients when they roast. With the amount of liquid/oil you used the ingredients would steam in the oven and not develop that flavor.
This recipe has been a huge hit with lots of good comments and reviews here and literally hundreds of people who have commented how good it was on Pinterest. There are comments that say, “Would make again.”
Why the need to be so rude? If the recipe or my site doesn’t appeal to you, there are endless options out there.
Can I use russet potatoes? If so, how long?
Yes, you could certainly use that type of potato. I haven’t tried it that way and don’t cook potatoes much, but I bet Google can tell you if there is a difference in the cooking time for russet potatoes vs. sweet potatoes. Hope you enjoy!
I don’t have a pan big enough to do everything at once, so I’m doing each ingredient separate. Every time I do it like that, the sweet potatoes are almost burning and setting off my fire alarm, but they’re not roasted thoroughly. This time I set the temp at 400 degrees, and my smoke detector still went off. What should I do?
There is no way for me to know for sure what you’re doing, but literally hundreds of people have commented on this recipe on Pinterest, and no one has mentioned this happening. There are some things I’d check. Are you sure your oven tempeature is okay? Some ovens cook much hotter than what the temperature says. Some brands of balsamic vinegar have a lot more sugar than others and the sugar might burn. Are you spraying the baking sheet with non-stick spray? If you don’t think either of those is the cause, I’d probably just lower the temperature a bit more and add sausage when you think sweet potatoes are about half done.
Sounds so good! Do you think I could sub brussel sprouts for the broccoli (trying to avoid the store)? Would the timing change?
I like the idea of using brussels sprouts. I only have one sheet pan meal with Brussels sprouts and that recipe cooks them at 400F for 21-23 minutes. This recipe has a higher temperature, so it might be okay, or I might put the Brussels Sprouts in a few minutes earlier. Love to hear how it works!
It was really good with brussel sprouts! I put them in about 10 minutes after I put the sweet potatoes in… the only thing I would do differently next time is not spray the pan first, bc the olive oil/balsamic mix made the pan “non stick” enough. Overall, great recipe for a quick and easy meal! Thanks so much for sharing and giving quick replies to questions! 🙂
So glad that worked and you enjoyed! And now I am fixing that silly reply above where I forgot to close the link, lol!
This turned out great. I added a little maple syrup to the sauce for the potatoes. It added a tiny bit of sweetness that was great. Love easy one pan dishes like this.
Thanks Sara, so glad you enjoyed it!
THis recipe was a hit! My family loved it only downfall was not having any leftovers! We used the andilles Italian sausages the flavors paired well. Thanks Kalyn !
So glad you enjoyed it! Glad to hear the whole family liked it.
I just had to comment. This recipe was DELISH! I ended up doubling the sauce, I felt like the broccoli would’ve needed a bit more. And it worked out great. Thank you. Checking your site for more yummy recipes!!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for letting me know.
Do you think I could use frozen broccoli and how? Frozen is all I have in the kitchen.
I really don’t know how frozen broccoli would work. I don’t cook with it that much, so I wouldn’t even be able to guess how it would work. You could look through the comments and see if anyone else mentions using it.
Thanks for sharing! Does it reheat well?
It’s best freshly made but I reheated with some cheese melted over and enjoyed it.
This looks so good! I love flavor combination and that it is healthy and gluten free!
Glad you like it; hope you enjoy!
when you say roast, is the oven on bake or broil. sorry l am new at this.
No problem, glad I can help! Roast = bake.
When you set the oven on broil, that’s cooking at very high heat from the top, usually just to brown things or cook meat quickly.
I think I’m going to try subbing chunks of pumpkin for the sweet potato. I find it tastes similar when roasted in this way and it’s way lower in carb. I’ll report back if I try it.
I think that would be tasty!
We love sheet pan dinners at our house, especially with yams, so this really caught my eye. Love that you toss with balsamic vinegar! I hadn’t thought of that. I like to sprinkle my yams with Tajin before roasting. Not carb-free but really delicious!
I had to look up Tajin, but wow does it ever sounds like something I would like! I googled the ingredients and it doesn’t sound like many carbs either!
